Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)
This album has a Bayesian average rating of 71.0/100, a mean average of 70.2/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 70.8/100. The standard deviation for this album is 13.0.

Underrated Elton John. Always remembered this being in my dad's record collection. After they moved he gave me his collection! Island Girl is so nostalgic! One of the catchiest songs of all time.
This album is underrated. These songs have been forgotten, even though "Island Girl" was a #1 hit in the USA. I like "I Feel Like a Bullet (in the Gun of Robert Ford) Not one of his very best albums, but I like it. It rocks a little harder than most of his albums.
Elton John switches up his band with Rock of the Westies. Some of the songs are pretty funky. The first side is definitely stronger than the second, but there are some solid songs on here.
Key tracks: Dan Dare, I Feel Like a Bullet (In the Gun of Robert Ford), and Grow Some Funk of Your Own.
Don't Go Breaking My Heart (with Kiki Dee) is a bonus track on my copy of this album, a track that this album really needs.
I think this is an underrated and overlooked album. The reason why is probably it's lack of a true Elton John classic. Island girl, is the only reasonably well known track. Also it's more of a rock album than previous records and that makes it an extremely enjoyable one. Not Elton's best, but worth re-evaluation.
Starts off very ambitious, and I like the medley a lot. Aside from that, nothing else totally stands out in my opinion. Solid album, but nothing great until 'Feed Me'. The rock stuff on here doesn't have the hook that a song like 'Saturday Night's..' has.
Great vocals and drums on this album though.
