Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).

(Well, it's a rarities album)
An exhaustive compilation album featuring many fine, and some not so fine, unreleased tracks. Spanning from his audition session at the Colombia record label in 1972 up to the E-street band reunion in 1995 it's a hit and miss collection. There are some brilliant moments here with Wild and the innocent outtake, Santa ana, being one of the best and my personal favourite of the album. Other highlights include the punchy, where the bands are, the atmospheric Human touch-era, happy, and the big soul ballad, back in your arms. The original acoustic version of Born in the USA is another intriguing number worth checking out. Obviously there's a wealth of material not on offer here as 2010's The promise album was to prove, and some of it you just can't believe that Springsteen would even consider leaving it of it's respective album, but for the most part I can understand why these tracks didn't make it. Still, a superb collection and essential for any Springsteen fanatic.
So many great tracks here. Especially disc 1 and 2. Disc 3 and 4 are good as well but you have to avoid some there, like trouble in paradise.
If you only listen to 1 track from this brilliant box set, you have to listen to Born In The USA (Demo). One of the great protest songs (misappropriated by Reagan in the '80's)sung the way a protest song should be sung. Reduced to the bare bones of vocals & guitar. It's magnificent.
