Bruce is one of the greatest American artists ever. Darkness, Born in the USA, E Street Shuffle, Rising, Wrecking Ball, River, Nebraska, and of course Born To Run. Only a handful of artists with that many classics.
But Bruce is more than that. He's more than the hit making poet. He is a person, a human, who is still seemingly in touch with what made him who he is. He's worked harder than just about anyone and his live shows prove that. Bruce was my first concert back in November of 2009. Showed me what a live performance could be.
He gets a lot of hate in indie rock circles and I will admit, I used to be one of those people. I thought he was complete cheese and he wrote only about politics (and was awful at it as well). However, it all changed for me after listening to Darkness on the Edge of Town. Springsteen was able to capture all of the broken dreams and feeling trapped and not able to escape that many people feel during their lives. Honestly, his run of albums until 1987 is one of the greatest stretches of music ever released. After that, well, just don't bother. But those original albums pre-1987 albums, man, they are just stunning. He's also one of the few artists I actually wish to one day see live.
I'm a huge fan of letting people have their opinions, especially about music. But seriously, this guy is the best.
The most sincere American rock & roll artist ever. No songwriter in rock 'n roll captures the feelings of joy, release, sadness and determination better than Bruce does. And with the E Street Band, his marathon live shows become a celebration of life itself. The man is truly an American musical treasure.
Bruce Springsteen is a bit overrated on this site. I mean he had some good albums and a handful of good songs but only Born to Run and Nebraska were great all the way through. Born to Run was his best work and it is pretty epic and very inspirational but it is a little cheesy at times. He sounds kind of like The Who, Bob Dylan, Billy Joel, Neil Young, Van Morrison, etc. He was never very unique. His songwriting and lyrics are strong especially on Born To Run and Nebraska but he was just a good artist. Not a great artist. Don't get me wrong I really like some of his work but I do think he is overrated. His best albums in order are; Born To Run, Nebraska, and Darkness on the Edge of Town. Other than those three albums and maybe The Promise (The Promise is a B-sides album that was released in 2010 and it is actually really good for a B-sides album) I wouldn't recommend anything from Bruce. Sorry. I know there are a lot of die hard Bruce Springsteen fans that are probably going to dislike this comment but I can't lie and say he is as good as a lot of you think he is.
