Rating metrics: Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some artists can have several thousand ratings)

This artist is rated in the top 2% of all artists on BestEverAlbums.com. This artist has a Bayesian average rating of 82.7/100, a mean average of 80.9/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 82.9/100. The standard deviation for this artist is 19.3.

I've always thought Born to Run is fantastic, and really enjoy The River, Tunnel of Love and Born in the USA. Saw him a couple of times in the 1980's but haven't kept up with later stuff.

Lyrically brilliant, backing band very proficient but the vocal is often mumbled and the songs themselves sound unimaginative and stilted. Apparently amazing live, but his recorded work is uninspiring.

Overrated as fuck? 100%.

~But~

Darkness on The Edge of Town and Nebraska are great albums. Disillusionment with the social structure of your home is hard to think about, much less write about.

The undisputed king of the heartland rock scene. The man has made more good albums than bad. Darkness on the Edge of Town, Born to Run, Tunnel of Love, Nebraska, Born in the USA, The River, Greetings from Ashbury Park. I could name more, but I'd suggest people just listen to his work.

Bruce is not for everyone, but give him a chance. He'll reel you in.

I can distinctly remember coming home one day from the record store and showing my mum my second hand Springsteen LPs I'd bought, and she audibly gasped, before saying "I used to love those albums".

Bruce Springsteen is unique in that he's one of the only artists I know who seems to garner such a personal, strong reaction whenever you hear him.

There's something so personal and so meaningful to be found in his picture of American life; the empathy he so carefully creates through the world we see in his music is what I think drives that personal connection so many people seem to have to him. Even after only listening to a few of his albums, before I really got into him, I felt like he'd already had a profound influence on my music taste.

Not just an essential artist in the scope of Americana, but a vital one in terms of properly meaningful music that's there for you whether you're feeling downhearted about life (Nebraska), having a chilled weekday evening-in (Darkness On The Edge Of Town) or you fancy a right-old sing-a-long (Born In The USA).
