A true one-album wonder Friends were. One of the catchiest releases of the decades, it feels less like 12 seperate numbers but one massive, seamless earworm of a hit instead, mixing 60s girl-group, 80s atmospheric synth-driven pop, 90s alt-groove edge and a modern cosmopolitan brooklyn-hipster sensibility. And it works rather beautifully thanks to the deft mix of electronics and tight drum-and-bass rhythem along with Samantha Urbani's sly, reedy vocals. While short of a modern classic, they had immense potential but sadly split up not long after Manifest! was released.
