Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)
This album is rated in the top 4% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a Bayesian average rating of 77.1/100, a mean average of 77.0/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 77.5/100. The standard deviation for this album is 13.3.

Your best company for a long, lonely winter night.
Super underrated album for this site. Thought it'd be top 10 for 2004.
Cohesive. Fresh. Every song is good. And its got classics "trouble" "jolene."
Whatevs.
Ray Lamontagne's debut album is a great collection of acoustic based Americana. Incorporating folk, country and rock into something both beautiful and aching. Some great songs here; Hannah, forever my friend, and, jolene(no, not that one), are the best tracks here. The title song was a surprising hit, and Lamontagne has continued to make good albums since. Great record.
Hands down one of the best folk album I've listened to. I can't believe I didn't start listening to his music until a few days ago. Husband brought to my attention his newest album Ouroboros a few days ago, I enjoyed it instantly so I looked him up on Apple Music and downloaded this album. This is way better than Ouroboros.
the voice. the songs. what planet is this guy from?
I wasn't a big fan of "Trouble" when it came out, but I heard "Jolene" last week and was blown away..."Jolene" is a masterpiece, perfect arrangement, paints a vivid picture of addiction and lonliness, great vocals
This is the best folk album of the last three decades, hands down...
"Burn" is possibly my favourite ever song
