Rating metrics: Help Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)

This album has a Bayesian average rating of 64.2/100, a mean average of 59.7/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 61.5/100. The standard deviation for this album is 16.7.

This is the closest we are ever gonna get to classic No Doubt. So might as well make the best of it. It's a pretty good pop album though!

Has it been 11 years since "rock steady" ? My entire music world has changed in that time frame -- i rarely indulge in cheesy pop fancy anymore. My interests have since shifted away from what's remaining of fragmented radio pop/rock and moved heavily to independent and alternative artists discovered online. I'll indulge in the pop sweet tooth now 'n' then, and when i saw no doubt returned i thought "gwen stefani's solo career must've stalled" and wondered "what will they sound like"? To answer the second question, they sound a lot like they did on "rock steady", with the upbeat numbers still easily trumping the ballads, while layering on additional electronics. You'd never know these kids once played ska. Like most pop, the hits are fun yet vapid ("lookin' hot" is top case in point) and your enjoyment ultimately depends on your age and whether you grew up with the artist. If i have a choice, i prefer pop artists with some musical talent versus mere "vocalists". Welcome back, no doubt.

I'd like to think that this is Gwen's apology to the world for "Hollaback Girl" & her harajuku girls. This album doesn't make up for her crimes against humanity, but there are a few nice tracks that I'm glad that the band got back together to create. My favorites are "Easy" and "One More Summer".
