Rating metrics: Help Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)

This album is rated in the top 14% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a Bayesian average rating of 74.3/100, a mean average of 72.3/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 75.2/100. The standard deviation for this album is 17.2.

Somebody once told me that if you can't find the peak of an album, then you simply aren't looking hard enough. Cobra Juicy's climax is pretty easy to identify. There's a spot smack in the middle of the last song that forms a little spike in your mind that tells you that you're nearing the end of something special. There's a thread about what song you'd like to hear at the end of the world that's in the forums right now. That song (Spraypaint) would be a prime candidate, a wretched heart-breaking song with outstandingly colorful music behind it, even while the lyrics cry about his world actively turning to gray. It's a theme that was used sporadically on Eating Us, and has extended to Cobra Juicy - these incredibly sad and soul crushing lyrics covered in a delightful candy coating like a gobstopper from hell. The juxtaposition works like a charm and provides a beautiful album. As for my impending doom, I may as well listen to this, because if I'm going out I may as well go out with a smile, fake or not.
