Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)
This album is rated in the top 2% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a Bayesian average rating of 79.0/100, a mean average of 78.1/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 79.4/100. The standard deviation for this album is 16.3.

"Godbluff" is a super concise record and packs quite a punch. The album starts slowly with the ballad-like "Undercover Man" and keeps marching onwards through "Scorched Earth" and "Arrow" (my favorite here and what a rocker!) and finally finishes with the epic "The Sleepwalkers", probably one of the best songs to showcase what 70s Prog was all about. Something I always found curious was that the first song ends with "You still have time" and the last one ends with "But soon my time is ended". Deliberate?
You know how good an album is when you come back to leave a further comment after the original. Keep your eyes open vinyl lovers, this album along with Pawn Hearts, H to He is the Only One and The Least We Can Do Is Wave to Each Other are all about to get re-issued on vinyl! I have listed the rating further to my original rating because I have realised there is so much to hear on this album. Sleepwalkers is an awesome prog offering!
Brilliant album! Sounds awesome on vinyl, considering VDGG were predominantly a keyboards, sax, drums and bass band, the lack of lead or rhythm guitar actually aids the dark and often desolate sound collage.
Every redundancy and magniloquence is stripped away and it's only the purest VDGG sound that remains. The songs are harsh, even aggressive, but they are as evocative as their classics (and even more). The best track for me is "The Sleepwalkers", with a somehow 'catchy' organ riff, which is actually written in something like 14/8!
