Gil's 5th record is his 1st released after his return to Brazil: he was politically exiled in London for almost 3 years by the then ruling military dictatorship.
It's an upbeat record, with his trademark style of playing guitar and smart, funny and beautiful lyrics. There are a few covers, but the highlights are his original compositions, specially "Back in Bahia", "Oriente" and the title track. (Edited)

Expresso 2222 is one of the finest Brazilian albums. There is not a bad song on the album, and peaks like "O Canto Da Ema" and "Sai Do Sereno" make it great.
