Ethereal music springs out of this one, their 2nd effort. The interplay of Latimer's flute and Bardens' keyboards is simply ecstatic. Unfortunately it remains another underrated brilliant classic album. On a personal note, I’ve been listening to it for the last couple of days continuously throughout the day and it still amazes the hell out of me.
There are long keyboard and guitar solos and two epics clocking over 9 minutes. One thing that makes me love Camel so much is their ability to write real songs while keeping them proggy. The music is always rather catchy and has a good sense of "groove" to it. On Mirage we get everything from beautiful mellow jazz to time signature changing prog. The drumming and bass playing are very jazz influenced, only touching upon hard rock when need be.

I don't know if these guys wrote the book on prog-rock but it definitely is a complete representation of the genre. You got the quick tempo changes, the scale pornography, the flute. Everything you need for a good 'ol prog-time while remaining surprisingly jazzy. The musicianship is of course, as I knew beforehand, at a very high level. Very interesting guitar-tone and synth sounds that you can tell was either inspired by or inspired Chick Correa, if it was weirder it could be a Return To Forever album. The interplay between the flute and the keys is quite something. It's a very even album, which is to be expected of this kind of instrumental noodling. But Nimrodel and Lady Fantasy stand out only because they are greater in scope.

Progressive rock in all its glory! Fine melodies, perfect production, very good musicians. I agree that this is an underrated album...
