Rating metrics: Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)

This album is rated in the top 1% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a Bayesian average rating of 80.5/100, a mean average of 79.0/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 80.8/100. The standard deviation for this album is 16.0.

Really enjoyed this one, almost as much as Mirage. Definitely have more listening to do with this band.

So good! The songs Lunar Sea, Song within a Song, and Air Born in particular are very enjoyable and easy for anyone to get into.

My favourite Camel album. While Mirage is also brilliant, Moonmadness has a concept and flow to it that hits home harder for me. As a prog rock nut I see why Mirage might be more popular, and that album is more classic in terms of a generic prog formula for an album. This album has amazing prog unfolding within the songs, and conceptually is very cohesive. The guitar, drums, keys and bass playing are all on a very high level. The flute in combination with ethereal keys adds hugely to the atmosphere of the album and the addition of 12-string guitar (eg. in Air Born) just adds further depth. The vocals are less prominent but quite metaphorical which works perfectly in this context I believe. There's a very good balance between light and shade. Kind of reminds me of a faster Floyd at times, especially Lunar Sea. Awesome album!

A wonderfully crafted collection of songs that really deserve a lot more love than I see them receive. Every song on here possesses something that you will enjoy and every track is at least good if not better. Their build up is sensational and they really allow every song to properly breathe which gives us a fantastic experience. The instrumentation is beautiful and is such a high level that it mesmerises me in places. This is exemplified on Song Within A Song and Air Born which are both just phenomenal. We are also treated to a varied display of instruments as well, all of which are played brilliantly with the flute being a personal favourite of mine. The flow of the music is very smooth as well with it feeling very cohesive and by the end you feel like you have had a true journey. However, I do think the final track Lunar Sea is a bit weaker than all the other ones as it starts slow but the final 4 minutes of that song does redeem it a little. Overall, a fantastic prog rock album that I enjoy every time I play it and it deserves so much more praise than it receives.

Camel is one of the most accessible prog bands, and this album is their best.
Beautiful moods and vibes.

I swear, Camel is the most underrated prog rock band from the 70s, they put out Mirage, Moonmadness, and so many other great ones.
