Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)
This album is rated in the top 2% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a Bayesian average rating of 78.4/100, a mean average of 77.8/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 78.6/100. The standard deviation for this album is 14.4.

Já consagrado o bastião do rock não decepciona.
El trabajo más variado de Petty y, posiblemente, el mejor.

Delivers its best material in the first 25 minutes and then overstays its welcome.
Petty’s voice and unique style are showcased well here. Wildflowers has many well written songs that can be felt by listeners. Only issue is the repetitiveness of the rhythm in most of these songs.

Classic Petty! Rating (79.33)
Amazing album. One of the best of the 90's.

Back in 2010, I wrote "Not bad, per se. Just so familiar-sounding. Doesn't excite me in the slightest." Just looking at the track list, I'm feeling more charitable about the album now, although I'm not sure I've actually re-listened to it since then, which is itself telling.

Great album, and a return to form for Petty, sadly it lacks emotion in some instrumentation, and has a couple of duds on the tracklist.
The more I hear this album, the better it gets. First 4 / 5 tracks are up there with the best that TP has ever done.

When I was living in Korea back in 1997, my sister mailed me a cassette tape of this album. It was one of three tapes I had with me at the time (for some reason I didn't have the presence of mind to bring more music with me), and I wore the thing out. The title track is one of the sweetest love songs I've ever heard, and although it's probably overplayed, it still moves me every time. And it reminds me that we all, one way or another, belong among the wildflowers.
