Rating metrics: Help Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)

This album is rated in the top 2% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a Bayesian average rating of 79.0/100, a mean average of 78.2/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 79.3/100. The standard deviation for this album is 14.8.

I was introduced to Tom Petty by my wife, then my Girlfriend, we were swapping mixed tapes as we did back then and she gave me one with some early TP & Heartbreakers. Since then Tom Petty has been up there on my all time favourite artists and I wish I had seen him before he passed.
This album is in my opinion the greatest work Tom Petty ever did, each track is beautifully crafted, with such heart and soul.

Full moon fever is where Tom Petty channels the Beatles... But it is more George and Paul. This is the album where he channels John Lennon.

El trabajo más variado de Petty y, posiblemente, el mejor.

Delivers its best material in the first 25 minutes and then overstays its welcome.

Petty’s voice and unique style are showcased well here. Wildflowers has many well written songs that can be felt by listeners. Only issue is the repetitiveness of the rhythm in most of these songs.

Back in 2010, I wrote "Not bad, per se. Just so familiar-sounding. Doesn't excite me in the slightest." Just looking at the track list, I'm feeling more charitable about the album now, although I'm not sure I've actually re-listened to it since then, which is itself telling.

Great album, and a return to form for Petty, sadly it lacks emotion in some instrumentation, and has a couple of duds on the tracklist.
