Isn’t this just amazing? Conor Oberst amazingly was writing awesome music in middle and high school, as he was ages 15-17 on this one. A lot of songs are lacking in quality but in some ways it makes the album all that more charming with its echo-y lofi sound. There are a lot of misses but definitely some awesome gems mixed in like “I Watched Her Taking Off”, “Falling Out Of Love At This Volume”, and “The Awful Sweetness of Sweet”. This was a taste of what was to come from Oberst over the next two decades. Fun listen here and there but probably not the best album to toss on during a kegger.
