This is one of the first albums that got me into folk and indie music. Even if I don't love it now, it was pretty important to me. Some of the songs, however, are bona fide classics for sure.

Ranked 5th best Album in 2005 I felt compelled to check it out . The opening track “At The Bottom Of Everything “ is awesome & I highly recommend you listen to this song even if you don’t listen to the rest of the album. Also the closing track “ Road To Joy” (which contains the I’m Wide Awake, Its Morning line) is similarly awesome . However the 8 songs between tracks 1 and 10 were Meh kinda ok at best. Overall I’m glad I visited this album and can see the appeal (Edited)

The first time I listened to this the spoken intro really turned me off, somehow makes him sound a little over bearing. But once that's out of the way I really like this album a lot. Both lyrically and musically it's a stand out. If you like this album try out Right Away Great Captain! a side project of Manchester Orchestra's front man Andy Hull. They should seriously do a song or album together, a ton of similarities in their songwriting and voices.

Was not expecting this to be this good! Maybe a little contrived/pretentious, but I can handle a little.
The opening track is a stormer, lyrically beautiful.
"While my mother waters plants
My father loads his gun
He says death will give us back to god
Just like the setting sun"
