Rating metrics: Help Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)

This album is rated in the top 2% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a Bayesian average rating of 77.9/100, a mean average of 77.5/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 78.2/100. The standard deviation for this album is 15.0.

The first album I bought on my own... (after I won a signed copy of George Harrisons 33 1/3.) It opened a complete new world of musical experience for me... After more than 40 years it's still a great record… but to be honest, although this Album was important for my musical socialisation, there was much more important - and much better to come. Nevertheless… Gates Of Babylon is outstanding, but there are many better Dio-songs. Long Live Rock'n'Roll and Kill The King are great… Sometimes I like the ballad Rainbow Eyes... but most of the Songs are just average material in the recording history of Dio and Blackmore. Sensitive To Light might be okay for an average Hard Rock/Metal Band... for Dio / Blackmore it's rubbish…

There is very little between this one and 'Rising' Both albums are 'Rainbow' at their peak and most creative. With Dio on vocals and Cozy Powell in the drum stool it couldn't fail to be anything but brilliant. 'Gates of Babylon' and 'Rainbow Eyes' are personal favourites.

The absolute BEST Rainbow record. The production on this record is perfect...and why not? It was recorded in a haunted castle. This is Dio's first masterpiece album. And really, Blackmore may never have played better himself. "Gates Of Babylon" is one of the three best hard rock songs ever. The others being "Burn" which also was written with Ritchie Blackmore and "God Of Thunder." That's the three. Learn it...Live it.
