Booth has recorded a lot of albums as frontman of James but pretty much all of them are flawed in some way, be it that they are too disjointed, too long, too uneven, over-produced etc. This solo LP doesn't really suffer from the same problems, though, imo - 'Bone' has a strong and consistent set of songs that complement each other pretty well.

Booth is backed mostly here by programmed electronics and instrumental loops, and this serves to create something of a bluesy and funky feel for the album overall. It's fun and relaxed, but there's enough going on in each of the backing tracks to keep attention engaged as well.
