Rating metrics: Help Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)

This album is rated in the top 12% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a Bayesian average rating of 74.5/100, a mean average of 74.8/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 74.8/100. The standard deviation for this album is 14.7.

Painfully underrated album of the eighties, especially for 1987. Love and Rockets at their creative best.

A superb third release by this trio, sonically muted from their previous efforts, but stylistically superior. The hit "No New Tale To Tell" is the cream of the crop.

Love And Rockets
A departure from densely sonic and chugging previous album 'Express.' Some songs have their expected rock sound, but mostly this is an acoustic based effort. Love and Rockets do a great job of combining acoustic music with experimental sounds. The lyrics are deep and full of ingenious imagery, the music is raw and unique, and very thoughtful.

Though critics will praise Express more, and rightly so perhaps, this album was actually much more popular due to the alt-rock hit No New Tale to Tell, which was an MTV mainstay. This album feels more acoustic than its psychedelic predecessor. I love The Light though some may find its gothy gloom a little oppressive.
