Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. An outstanding 1980s chart. We have lots of selections in common, but the one that's grabbed my attention today is The Cure's Disintegration. I think at one point I thought that album was a little uneven, but I've come to greatly appreciate how consistent it is from start to finish, and how great some of the lesser known album tracks are. A great album that epitomizes the end of the eighties in so many ways.

This is great. You've got the same kind of taste in 1980s that I do. This is similar to my 80s chart. ExTeaSea is an excellent, excellent name too. I laughed my ass off when I saw that just because I thought it was so clever.
