Rating metrics: Help Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)

This album is rated in the top 15% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a Bayesian average rating of 74.2/100, a mean average of 73.6/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 74.6/100. The standard deviation for this album is 15.5.

Techno with layers and substance. The best is when it gets into a nice groove with the excellent beats, particularly in the middle of the album. Opener "Forever" is another highlight, and I liked the beats and the weird male opera singer on closer "Attached". Along the way there are some tracks that go on too long. And the music can get rather repetitive at times, which is probably fine if you're dancing or doing something else (?) to this, but can be a bit of a slog for serious listening. Still overall I like the album, the best parts here are terrific.

This is certainly a more ambient experience compared with Orbital's previous self-titled album, Orbital 2 (The Brown Album), which was more dance oriented. This one reaches new heights of musical creativity.

For some reasons I never went beyond their first two albums. A shame. I was directed to this album when I heard Goldfrapp made an appearance. While realizing her contributions were disappointing (for her standards) I was already intensely enjoying the soundscapes and beats from Orbital. They know how to make songs interesting purely on a sonic level as good electronic musicians should.

The textures and sounds are out of this world and the rhythms and melodies take you on a journey
