Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)
This album is rated in the top 23% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a Bayesian average rating of 73.9/100, a mean average of 72.8/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 74.1/100. The standard deviation for this album is 18.7.

Note: This album is also known as "Me and Bobby McGee"
Like many left-of-center Nashville songwriters, Kris Kristofferson didn't have much luck before he got a record deal. For period of time he practically lived out of his car (like John Hartford, Mickey Newbury, and Roger Miller) and worked as a janitor for a record company, hoping that it would literally get his foot in the door. Unlike Hartford and Newbury and Van Zandt, Kristofferson's Nashville career really took off and enjoyed writing hits AND seeing his own recordings deliver him fame.
50 years later, Kristofferson's debut is still the best Nashville songwriter's album of all time. It is packed with vivid character stories, and combining that with his his low, smoky vocals, you could call Kristofferson the Leonard Cohen of country music.
Career Highlight: Me and Bobby McGee
Gems: Sunday Morning Coming Down, Darby's Castle, Help Me Make It Through the Night
Best Tracks: Me And Bobby Mcgee, Casey's Last Ride
Very underrated. Excellent songs from Kristofferson, an often overlooked artist. Excellent folky Americana.
Huge. Stellar writing.
Greatest Pure Oldschool Country Album ever.
Then Again The Felice Brothers Will give him a Run for His Money if You Widen your definition of country to the Modern Day. Sorry Old Timers.
probably second only to bob dylan on lyrics but bob dylan never had so many brilliant songs on one album.
Sunday Morning Coming down my favourite on this
I have never listened to this, but the audacious claim to be the greatest singer/songwriter album ever makes me want to so much!
Nothing but the greatest country album AND the greatest acoustic singer/songwriter album in the same package. Includes the classic Me and Bobby McGee of course, but another four or five lesser known tracks are just as brilliant, To Beat the Devil being the foremost. If you don't like Kris Kristofferson...you can kiss my ass!
