Rodney Crowell's debut had a large impact. It would begin his career of writing stellar songs that didn't really go up the charts until they were covered by hitmakers. Nearly every song here, according to Allmusic, was covered by other musicians.
The production here is classic 70s folk/country rock. It fits, but loses Rodney's music to a forgotten radio era. Rodney would continue to conform with many radio accessible styles until fitting into a comfortable acoustic niche later in his career.
Crowell has really strong material here. If it wasn't for the three so-so covers, this would rival Diamonds & Dirt as his best album.
