Very sad album with beautiful melodies
Sting's least accessible album is also his saddest in tone. It's extremely intimate and introverted.
An ode to his passing father and a way to grieve, Soul Cages is Sting at his least commercial. This isn't meant to be popular or have singles.
I want to love it. I have tried a few times I just can't get into it yet. I recognize the skill and it probably deserves a higher rating than I'm giving but I haven't taken to it yet.

Written in the aftermath of his own fathers death. This is an album that tells the story about a boy (Billy) and the death of his father, a shipbuilder who is fatally injured at work and Billy's desire to bury his father at sea. It is a sad album but very thought provoking.

A highly intimate album in which Sting lets go a little the virtuoso playing to tell a story and give it the space it deserves. To be listened to attentively. This one is not a party album. it is to be taken in more as you would take in a great movie or book.
