With the teen-idol looks of a David Cassidy and a voice more like Ian Hunter's, it's no surprise that David Essex's music ended up sounding like the exact midway point between the two.

This, his 2nd album, is a better and more consistent set than it's predecessor. Several tracks here, like "Window", "America", and "Dance Little Girl", maintain the uniquely eerie vibe of "Rock On", his debut's title track and global hit, without sounding like cheap carbon copies. And while it failed to produce a follow-up hit in the US, it spawned two more big ones in the UK, where "Gonna Make You a Star" hit #1 and "Stardust" peaked at #7.

I wouldn't call this album essential, but if you appreciate the smarter and more ambitious side of 70's AM Pop, it's a hell of a lot of fun.
