Promising debut album from a band that seem to be making music for the hell of it rather than for a genuine reason. The punk influences are abound here, though the socio-political commentary isn't quite as pointed as perhaps it could be.
What is good, however, is the guitar playing; it's the defining part of their sound and stands out amongst other music. Always powerful, always full of energy, it gives a real kick when ever you listen to it. Some excellent riffs can be found on 'Cheer Up London', 'Sockets' and 'Ninenty Nine'.
The overall structure too is decent. Doesn't lose pace, no fluctuations in quality for the most part, though some songs could have been ordered a little better.
What really makes this for me, however, is that it feels new. I get the impression we're seeing the start of a great band here, who's style and sound is still yet to evolve. This, if you like, is the groundwork; Slaves are here and they mean buisiness.
