Todd Cochran (aka Bayeté) only released a couple albums as leader, but the first one is a doozy; an incredible collection of genres delivered by a leader with vision supported by musicians with style and substance (Bobby Hutcherson plays vibes and that's a very good thing here). While Bayeté may not be a first tier name today, this album was huge in it's day, coming in atop Downbeat's year end list for 1972, beating out the likes of Miles Davis' On The Corner. If you're looking for some monster jazz funk, you'll find it here. If you're looking for some unique music of the day, you'll also find that here. If you want to hear someone blend some jazz funk with classical influences, well... you get the picture. It is very much an album of its time, but it also holds up exceptionally well today. Classic.
