Rating metrics: Help Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)

This album is rated in the top 9% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a Bayesian average rating of 74.9/100, a mean average of 73.8/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 75.1/100. The standard deviation for this album is 15.9.

With the exception of my heart, which I’m not keen on, this is an excellent album. Prime, heavyweight Neil young

Sleeps with Angels is quite underrated. I see a lot of comparisons to Tonight's the Night, which makes complete sense. Both are almost obsessively about someone who died, the songwriting is bleak on both, and both seemed to have gone unnoticed within their relative decades. Tonight's the Night has thankfully since been reappraised critically, but Sleeps with Angels seems to be less lucky. Songs like My Heart and Prime of Life embody grunge without actually delving into the genre musically; crude, raw, and unpolished. The title track does go into grunge territories, and it's great, noisy and unrelenting. This album definitely needs to be ranked higher in his discography.

I've seen the word underrated used a few times in the comments, for good reason. This is a great Young album, also my favorite of his from the 90s. I consider it one of my ten favorites of his and that's saying something because of the amount of music he's put out.

It's okay, but way overlong with a few weak tracks and a couple of very boring ones. A shorter and tighter album would have been better.

I agree. In my view it's one of Neil's very best - beautifully understated with Neil in melancholy mood in the most part. The old-style lullabies suggests Neil is pondering his own imminent death as he reaches middle age. In one track he actually plays the flute.

A Neil Young album that's actually underrated! The title track is for Cobain, and the rest is Crazy Horse loud, distorted and sounding great.
