Before The Bamboos, as in Tim Rogers The Bamboos there was The Bamboos !!!. Formed in 1984 in Collie Western Australia a rural speck on the map 213 kms south of Perth this Bamboos couldn’t be more different than THAT Bamboos with their unique (at the time) hybrid sound of country/ “cow punk” and swamp that was inspired by no one and nothing - it simply happened organically in a faraway town in faraway Australia

The band first came to national attention (and it was where I first heard them) with inclusion on an ABC compilation of exciting new Australian acts called ‘Cooking With George - Mark Too’. The three tracks here “Law Of A Gun”, “Gone Wishin’” and “Virginia” had a wild energy about them and I was instantly smitten

In 1987 they released their one and only LP ‘Rarer Than Rockinghorse Shit’ and around the same time an excellent EP ‘Born Killer’ and that would be that. 17 tracks and dearly remembered by those who knew them
