Some people would consider The Bad Plus to be a cover band, seeing as they did get "famous" through their progressive Jazz covers of "Smells Like Teen Spirit", "Heart of Glass", "Velouria", and "Iron Man", amongst others. While their covers are great (I'm especially a fan of "Karma Police" and "Tom Sawyer"), their original stuff really shines too. If you listen to nothing else, check out "Physical Cities" on the album Prog. The drummer David King's medalist trilogy is great too, culminating in "1980 World Champion", a stellar track, featured on Prog. "Anthem for the Earnest" and "Rhinoceros Is My Profession" are also personal highlights, both off the album Suspicious Activity. And by the way, if you get the chance, The Bad Plus are really fantastic live.
