My favorite album from my favorite modern jazz band. I listened to these guys' first four albums on repeat in high school. Suspicious Activity has always stood out to me as the album that has the catchiest melodies, even after they devolve into improvisational chaos. The pared-down instrumentation, just piano, drums, and bass, allows the melodies to jump out at the listener.
The balance between those melodies and the frantic rhythms is what makes this album so captivating. Examples such as "Anthem for the Earnest" and "Chariots of Fire" seem to be on the verge of falling apart, only to magically snap back together again for one final pounding resolution. Its like they are a free jazz band with some semblance of commercialism.
Also, this is one of my favorite CD Jackets of all time. Totally worth buying if only for that reason.
Best Track: Lost Of Love (and Anthem, Chariots, Let Our Garden Grow, and Prehensile Dream).

"Anthem for the Earnest", "Let Our Garden Grow", and "Rhinoceros Is My Profession" are all highlights for me. And the cover of "Chariots of Fire" is phenomenal.
