He looked like your high school physics teacher and played like a god damn demon.
I don’t recall how or even when I came across Roy but I’m so glad that I did.
His albums weren’t always the best although his playing, was always top draw, with That's What I Am Here For being, in my opinion a great album but, despite not always having the greatest material to work with, he always made his Fender Telecaster sing.
Buchanan has influenced many guitarists, including Robbie Robertson, Gary Moore, Danny Gatton, Jeff Beck, David Gilmour, Jerry Garcia, Mick Ronson, & Nils Lofgren .
Beck dedicated his version of "Cause We've Ended As Lovers" from Blow by Blow to him. Honestly, anyone who influenced Jeff Beck , possibly the greatest guitarist of all time, is worthy of your attention.
If you can find it there is a documentary made in 1971 called Introducing Roy Buchanan, AKA The Best Unknown Guitarist in the World. (Edited)

Remember watching a three part series on the BBC in the 1980's about the best guitarists you've never heard of. Albert Collins was one, Roy Buchanan another and I forget the third. I remember being blown away by Roy and when I saw When the Guitar Plays the Blues in a second hand store a few years later I snapped it up. It has always been a favourite of mine. More recently added his first 2 albums - love the 2nd album, but disappointed with the first. Surprised to see it's his highest ranked on here, so maybe it will grow on me.

Jeff Beck dedicated his version of "Cause We've Ended As Lovers" from Blow by Blow (1975) to Roy Buchanan. Buchanan is undervalued and the most forgotten great guitarist of all time! It looks like this site, so generally a good taste of the members exhibit, have also lost sight of him.
MVD Entertainment, who have just released Live At Rockpalast, a welcome document of a February 1985 appearance on the popular German television show Rockpalast, Buchanan's 60-minute performance has been released on both CD and DVD. Buchanan's set that night included a number of original tunes - audience favorites like "Night Train" and "Linda Lou" - as well as choice covers of Jimi Hendrix ("Foxy Lady"), Booker T & the MG's ("Green Onions"), and surf-guitar legends the Ventures ("Walk, Don't Run").
