Codeine is an American rock band formed in New York City in 1989. They are widely considered the pioneers of the slowcore genre.
While mainstream rock in the early '90s was becoming faster and louder, Codeine did the opposite.
The band only released a few records before their initial breakup, but all are cult classics.
