BEAutiful People: Recommendations from the Community

Based on the noWaxJim chart, here’s how he describes it:
“I get some lovely comments every now and then from people who have ended up discovering, listening to and loving a record I've featured, mentioned or name-dropped their way. Well, it's time to repay the kudos. Below is a list of albums discovered thanks to members on this site (naturally in order of preference), along with those amazing souls who put me in touch with it in the first place. Hope this will be an ever-expanding list, but in the meantime feel free to drop me all the recs you like below - there's plenty of space for more if you want your name up in lights! Extra credit now given for those recs that have penetrated the Top 100... “
So, you heard him—this will be a documenting of recommendations people on BEA have given (or I have taken) with my respective thoughts following.

This recommendation was my second foray into Stereolab, and it’s the one that stuck as I really appreciated what went on with this record that it breached my Overall. That never happens. But really the sense of experimentation in an alternative mindset that probably inspired tons of bands a decade later is present on this and I will tell you this right now that “Jenny Ondioline” is one of the greatest alternative rock songs… period. I don’t care that its eighteen minutes long because it has such a grandiose yet airy buildup that makes it just sound ecstatically wonderful. The rest of the record isn’t that far behind Jenny, of course, because I wouldn’t put a record on my overall because of one song. I pretty much love this consistently and I didn’t really think Stereolab was for me beforehand—whatever changed, I’m glad it did. [First added to this chart: 02/25/2015]

ROCKYRACCOON
Probably one of the strongest ambient/modern classical releases I’ve heard, though admittedly I haven’t ever listened to Stars of the Lid who I’ve seen RYM commentators bring up as a sort of influence? I don’t know if they are the same sort of band that approaches things like this, but color me impressed for what I have heard today. By my chagrin there are two perfect songs (parts I and XI) and that doesn’t happen too often for me these days so call me very pleasantly surprised. This will most certainly become a favorite of mine and I will listen to it many times in the future; really thankful for being turned on to such a fantastic, atmospheric, and enriching album. I fell in love with this almost immediately. I’m going to say that this maybe should be on my overall—that is how much I absolutely fell in love with this record. If you are asking me this record headed by Josh Gennet should not be as obscure as it is. What we have here is a perfect synthesis between mid-90s twee pop and the jangle pop of yesteryear with occasional drifts into noisy indie rock on songs like “New Year’s Anything” and “Happy If You Knew It”. It’s a very saccharine and lovely piece of alternative music and it is absolutely wonderful. [First added to this chart: 04/15/2015]

By the time I was on the third track for this I pretty much fell in with this record, it’s pretty damn great—I love the intensity and rawness of the record, which is exactly what something out of something classified as a metalcore-meets-emoviolence-meets-sludge metal thing needs to be. I’m not the hugest on the clean vocal bits, but it’s very much something I’m used to with listening to the genre and it doesn’t turn me away. What a frantic, energetic mess this is in all of the best ways ever. You know how to cater to my interests (or my current mood) really well, though I will say that I thought the first half of this was much better than the second half and like some releases it seemed to sort of drag on at the end. But overall, this thing incited a lot of good things with me. Really enjoyed it, thank you.
Though I imagine when I go to bed that this is going to be rough. What kind of nightmares will I encounter? Hahaha. [First added to this chart: 02/25/2015]

It started as if I was in a niche 1980s police procedural and evolved into one of the most engrossing listens anybody has ever given me. Really cool synths and textures going on and I felt so energized listening to the thing. I really really like this. There’s just something so phenomenal about this and I don’t know what it is and considering while yes I’m not that experienced in the “bleeps and bloops” this has hit me on first listen to be a release that will stick with me. If this is what acid house is I need all of the genre on my computer right now. These ten tracks are simply not enough. [First added to this chart: 04/23/2015]

What a great idea for a chart..... ;)
Seriously though - with so many decent recs being thrown about all over the place it's always good to both keep tabs and mention those who pointed you in their direction in the first place. It's like a chart equivalent of good karma.
