Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)
This album is rated in the top 2% of albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a mean average rating of 79.0/100. The trimmed mean (excluding outliers) is 80.5/100. The standard deviation for this album is 14.9.

Should have bought this after getting the Jenny ondioline ep which I bought after seeing them do French disko on the word. Played that to death. I'm sure it would have been one of my faves of the decade. Finally heard it and it's marvelous.

Wonderfully innovative distorted indie lounge pop noise.

"Crest" is incredible. The rest is not quite on par, but very good still.
This is the best of the three masterpieces produced by the band. At the forefront of their sound, were the dream-like naieve vocals of Laetitia Sadier that overlayed unpredictable electronic rhythms and beautifully subtle arrangements. The voice acted as a kid of surreal instrument which blended and juxtasaposed a series of hypnotic and acid instrumental scores that nodded firmly in the direction of 1960s lounge.
With the release of TNBWA, the band had created a distinctive and original musical language that transcended the Neu and Velvet Underground influences of their initial period.
Their sound on TNBWA was both accomplished and innovative as it was austere. They successfully managed to blend classical elements with an approach that veered towards easy-listening.
Stereolab were not just one of the most original bands of the 1990s but of all time, and their sound will likely provide the inspiration for successive generations of musicians.

Sounds like an hour long variation on "Sister Ray" with some cool motorik beats.
