This album set the template for my listening experience for the next few years after it's release until I heard COTC (see below).
It didn't necessarily feel that way at the time, i guess because we didn't know any better, but Birmingham in the late sixties / early seventies was a very rough place to grow up and we always tended to have a bit of an attituded towards London so having a sound that was ours was really important and this was it.
This was the sound of the engineering works and the foundries that powered the country. This was us. If you grew up in that time you had to stand up for yourself and be tough.
As a foot note. If I'd known that Ozzie, Tony, Geezer and Bill were supporters of "The Vile", I'm a Bluenose, I might not have felt quite so enamoured of this.
For none soccer fans, The Vile are Aston Villa and I support the far superior Birmingham City [First added to this chart: 09/18/2021]

Until hearing this album I was very much into heavy metal / heavy rock. Nothing was better than a bit of Black Sabbath. The year this was released (1974) I was 15 and a friend of mine said that I had to hear Crime Of The Century. I'd never heard of Supertramp and as Steven was also a bit of a rocker, I thought that this was going to be a heavy rock album.
I genuinely was blown away by the album from the first listen. We must have played it three or four times that night and it made me want to listen to other music apart from rock. So, this did literally change my life
Years later I met the most amazing woman in the world, who is still my wife, and what is her favourite album I hear you ask, Crime Of The Century. Serendipity? I'll leave you to judge. [First added to this chart: 09/12/2021]

Neil Young is probably my favourite artist of all time. in the 1980's I fell out of love with him big time. Albums like Re-ac-tor, Trans, Everybody's Rockin', Old Ways & Landing on Water just didn't do it for me and I truly believed that is best years were behind him.
This is the album that brought me back to Neil in a huge way. One of the great track one side one's in Rockin' In The Free World, through The Ways Of Love and On Broadway to the final reprise of the opening track this is a triumph.
What makes it even more important is that it wasn't a blip following it up with Ragged Glory & Harvest Moon, Sleeps With Angels and Mirrorball. If it wasn't for this album I might have consigned NY to the archives which would have been a huge shame. [First added to this chart: 09/18/2021]

My Swiss French wife has introduced me to a lot of French language music some of which i love, this album being a case in point, and some of which I don't.
This album changed my view of French music completely. It combines funk, orchestral music, prog even and great guitar playing. I also love artists like Leonard Cohen and the almost spoken work delivery of SG hit a note with me.
This album made me want to hear more French music and led me discover artists like Francois Hardy, Veronique Sanson and Michel Polnareff to name but a few. [First added to this chart: 09/18/2021]

I came to jazz late in life but now it a big part of my album collection and this is the album which made me sit up and go wow, jazz does have something to offer me after all.
Yes, it's a masterpiece but that doesn't mean that it should get into this chart. It's in this chart because it made me go and listen to other albums by JC and consequently albums by artists associated with JC and so the web expanded. It also led me into a treasured friendship that may not have happened if not for a shared interest in jazz.
I now own the Complete Masters version which is stunning. Three discs of jazz heaven.
I cannot put my finger on why this album resonated with me so much , good thing is I don't have to, it just did and I'm grateful for that. [First added to this chart: 10/20/2021]

I had always liked soul music but thought of it as singles of 2 half minutes of pop heaven, until I heard this album. This was a proper album with Masterpiece at the heart of this masterpiece. 13 minutes of soul perfection.
I've since got into other great soul albums by artists like Isaac, Otis & Marvin and other Temptations albums but this was the eye opener
