One of my favourite bands. Almost everyone I know loves them, but I never hear anyone talk about them online, for some reason.

No band sounds like this one. I really have a soft spot on it.
It's a pity that their best known singles, ie Logical Song, Dreamer, It's raining again, aren't their best songs.
In my opinion, not only Crime of the Century is top class. Crisis what crisis? may not be as cohesive but has some of their best compositions, and their other two albums in that 74-79 period, their debut and some odd songs (ie Rosie had everything planned, Don't leave me now) are also very good.

Four great albums within five years (74-79) is more than most can claim.

Supertramp is one of my absolute favourite bands of all time. Their Crime Of The Century - Crisis? What Crisis? - Even In The Quietest Moments - Breakfast In America suite is one of the greatest ever. However, before those four albums, they were boring, and after, they weren't very good anymore.

Their career reminds me of The Kinks', somehow : the first few albums contain bland music (prog for Supertramp, rock 'n' roll for The Kinks), then they give birth to four masterpieces in a row, then one or two correct albums (...Famous Last Words... for Supertramp, Lola and Muswell Hillbillies for The Kinks), and finally they fall miserably into a pompous and uninteresting parody of themselves.

They seemed to be in on a joke that nobody else was. At times, I find them trite and disposable. Other times, I find them remarkable, with depth, layers, and intelligence. An intriguing band.

I was surprised when Roger Hodgson and the boys separated that Rick Davies pulled it together and got a few albums and quite a few songs together. The opposite of the Pink Floyd/Roger Waters divorce, in the case of Supertramp I feel it is the Roger that lost out.
