This was probably the last Really Big Year™ for albums before smartphones and streaming services started to take over. This was also the tail-end of the Nugaze Era™, and also the peak of the Great Pop Songwriter Shakeout™, after which only two or three people wrote hit songs. (I think they're down to just that one Swedish guy now.) It was also the beginning of The Golden Age of Adding Trademark Symbols To Arbitrarily-Named Time Periods™, which is somehow still going on as I type this.

This was the last SDfP album, the best-sounding production-wise, and musically, just as good as any of their other stuff. So, why didn't I rank this one just as highly as the other stuff? I think it's because by the time this album came out, I had pretty much reconciled with all of my own puppets and since we were all fairly happy with our new "gentler string-pulling" arrangement, we just didn't really need a lot of pointed reminders of the "bad old days."

I'll be the first to admit that I was disappointed to learn that none of the members of this band from Gothenburg (that's in Sweden) are named "Mary Onette," nor are any of them licensed marionette operators. I thought about ranking this album lower because of that, but then I learned that you don't even need a special license in Sweden to operate a marionette. Is that crazy or what? Anyway, this is a pretty good pop album, with some 80s-era "proggy" influences too, if you're into that sort of thing, or maybe if you just like puns.
