This was probably the last Really Big Year™ for albums before smartphones and streaming services started to take over. This was also the tail-end of the Nugaze Era™, and also the peak of the Great Pop Songwriter Shakeout™, after which only two or three people wrote hit songs. (I think they're down to just that one Swedish guy now.) It was also the beginning of The Golden Age of Adding Trademark Symbols To Arbitrarily-Named Time Periods™, which is somehow still going on as I type this.

In some ways I actually like this album more than Loveless, though this opinion is considered heretical by fellow shoegazers. I sort of wish the shoegazers hadn't formed their own religion and churches and the inevitable Inquisitions and torture chambers to go with it all, because that way I could maybe express opinions like this more openly, but apparently this is what the music industry is all about now.

My Bloody Valentine's original 1991 "Loveless" album was red, and everyone seemed satisfied with that at first, but in 2007 Japancakes made a green one, in 2008 someone calling themselves "Pas de Printemps Pour Marnie" made a white and green one called "My Bloody Covers," and then in 2011 someone named Gordrann made a kind of greenish-orange one. That was too much green, so in 2013 a guy named Kenny Feinstein made a blue one called "Loveless Hurts to Love," and of course you couldn't make a purple one because that would just be silly, so the only color left for this one (also in 2013) was yellow. This is one of the things I like about the shoegaze genre — everyone gladly cooperates with each other to reduce unnecessary confusion.
