Biblical Love - surprising song, in all positive lights. It starts with such a tender atmosphere, and then breaks into a symphonic noise of pop-rock that melodically is also banging.
Cat Cradle - not as striking as the opener, but still enjoyable
Maniac - this sounds like a parody of a toxic person's mindset, through that innocent indie folk blender. It's endearing, and judging by the fact I don't know if she means it or not, makes it even unsettling.
Valentine - typical indie folk pop number, where the strings take up too much. Still not bad, though.
Eternal Sunshine - the songwriting here reminds me a bit of Lorde, but FF still does bring some of her own story telling into the mix. Instrumentally, indie folk is at the forefront, giving the song more of an earnest edge.
The Idles of March and Cordelia - she succumbs to the generic side of indie. Just below passable.
Squirrel Cinderella - beautiful ballad, the backing elements give character like they usually do in these type of songs. "The internet is gonna make me crazy" is such a cool lyric, it's kind of obvious. Did I say that her breathy harmony is nearly goosebump-inducing? Cause it is. I don't care, this song is a masterpiece.
Skeleton Key - the most dream poppy song here, and a bit unusual take on it. The easiest to do would be to rip off Cocteau Twins or Mazzy Star, but Ruby incorporates something a bit more casual, chamber and less angelic somberness. Well done. It flows into Pushing Daisies, definitely the best of the bunch with indie orchestra outburst.
If I Beg You - predictable but understandable this is the closing song. The songwriting isn't as strong as say Biblical Love or Eternal Sunshine but I still like the song a lot. An honest-to-God expression of post break up immodesty, unlike many songwriter who try to write themselves off as better people.
Strong effort of an album. Elated I checked it out. This will reward on further listens. [First added to this chart: 12/09/2024]
