As of last year, this has become my favourite album of all time, which I don't see changing any time soon. It's probably the vibe as much as anything, honestly - the whole album carries this haunting, occultish atmosphere that I absolutely adore. Favourite tracks for each disc would be the raging, hurricanic "Off This Century" for Disc 1 and the gorgeous slow sad funeral dirge of "Below the Salt" for Disc 2, but there's nothing here I don't love - I find that it's rare for an album of this length to justify itself, but when the stars align and it's actually pulled off the results are truly magical.

This band is so underappreciated. I prefer both Repetition and Fake Train, but this is also great.

Not sure I'd call this band underappreciated definitely one of the most influential and best acts of all time in DIY. Their work ethic alone was a model to all the scene workers. Anyway I definitely listen to repetition and new plastic ideas more but this is a sprawling masterpiece and they went indie far more effectively than their east coast peers Fugazi on The Argument. Great stuff, RIP Vern.

Hey, The Argument is great. Although not as good as this, I agree.

It's good, literally every Fugazi record is better though in my opinion, which I think says much more about the quality of Fugazi as a band than it does about The Argument. I prefer them as a band without the extraneous melodic elements. Even End Hits which is clearly transitioning into their final period has all this angular funk skronk. The production on The Argument is so clean sometimes in ways that I feel undermines the songwriting (plate delay and Fugazi don't really belong together imo)

Fair enough. It's not their best, but it's not my least favourite either. And I agree that post hardcore without DIY and lofi aesthetics just isn't as good.
