This was one of those genres that rarely gets talked about but I wanted to see what was considered the best funk records out there in music. Not only would present albums that I haven't really though of or known but also give some old heads newer recommendations. Hopefully creating a place for people who appreciate this genre. The selection just needs to be in the consideration for the funk.
For some personal favorites in no particular order my choices would be:
To Pimp A Butterfly-Kendrick Lamar
Jamiroquai- Emergency on Planet Earth
Zapp- Debut
Gil Scott Heron- Bridges
DJ Spinna- Here to There
Dam Funk- Invite the Light
Tuxedo- Debut
King- We Are King
And if there are albums that aren't on this list, present it. I know that people will mention Talking Heads or Parliment/Funkadelic.

A lot of my favourites are probably more technically classed as soul. But they still groove like hell, so I'll put 'em here.
Sly and the Family Stone - There's A Riot Goin' On
Herbie Hancock - Headhunters
Stevie Wonder - Innervisions
D'Angelo - Voodoo (his latest is more funk, but I know this one better)
Then more recently:
Childish Gambino - Awaken, My Love
Anderson Paak - Malibu

@indieshins
InnerVisions and Awaken My Love are some of my personal favorite funk records. Do want to give Anderson as well as Sly Stone a listen. And don't worry if they are more of soul because one of my favorites could be considered as a hip hop record. Hell I could have added albums like Outkast's Aquemini or Common's Like Water for Chocolate or some albums by People Under the Stairs.

Love that Ohio Players Record. Also need to try the Slave record as well as the Heatwave record. Worship the Dayton sound
Also got to give the Roy Ayers a spin. That Mandrill album looks nuts, and this Black Moon album kicks ass! Lets keep this train going.

This Aretha Franklin track has the funk and soul. And your right, can't kept still from this track as well as for James Brown. Need him in my life. Oh and side note, I checked your favorites for the 2000's and you picked the correct Radiohead album for number 1. Good man. Have that in my all time favorites.

Get rocksteady my friend.
And yes that is the correct choice for Radiohead overall...

I would say the funk song that will have you moving is Holy Ghost by the Bar Kays. Love that song so much.
