When this album came out I was completely obsessed with it. It was constantly played in my car well into the summer. I tried to get all my friends at college into it with little luck. I think one friend back home shared my passion. However, all that listening proved tiresome. I haven't listened to any of these songs without somebody else putting them on since summer 2008.
I think this is my favorite album opening 1-2 punches. This is the album where the Racs came over the top with their rock sound.
Love it when these guys get together. Another please.
By the time this came out I was Jack-Whited out, thought he was overexposed and past his creative peak. Just grabbed this lately, thanks to hearing some of it on Slacker radio and seeing some reviews on this site. Jeeze, was I ever wrong! This stands with any of the very best White Stripes I do believe. Now that this has my attention (wink), I have had to add this to my top 100.
It's fine to say that this is like classic '70's rock as long as you note that this is a smashing improvement on Skynyrd or the Doobies or whoever else. None of those bands made a whole album anything like this.
Definitely a great listen, I did find it slightly worse than "Broken Boy Soldiers" which in my opinion is one of the best albums of the past decade. But still talent is talent and there's a lot of it in this album.
A great album (what Jack White-centric album isn't?) but apparently unlike most people, I think Broken Boy Soldiers is by far the better of the two Raconteurs albums.
I deeply regret my first impressions and listens of Consolers of the Lonely, I wasn't ready (not old enough), not yet learned in the great history that is rock'n'roll.
The soul and passion of these guys is hard to understand, a brick wall of unpenatrable energy surrounds them here. Behind the brilliant sessions that they of course were, lies probably really fast and productive songwriting between the bands lead singers, Brendan and Jack.
And sure enough some can only dream of writing a heartbeater like Hold Up or non-boring guitar solos that's there and there. The mixes are amazing. Everything flows together like the music has life of its own, in that perfect touch of garage vibe. The guitar sound, I am not gonna say that I'm melted or somethin' stupid like tha', but seriously, that guitar... Even Pull This Blanket Off that is a wonderful 1:50 something short song. What about that last ballad whatsitsname, Carolina Drama. Oh..ma..gad.
Alright, good night.
I wish they would release another album. This band has always been great because its nice to see Jack White playing with other great musicians. I love the White Stripes to death but this band was and is a very nice change of pace.
Thankfully, Jack White drives this band. They rock, something we need more of these days.
a great album! I like the guitars a lot on this one
