Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)
This album has a Bayesian average rating of 67.5/100, a mean average of 66.5/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 67.0/100. The standard deviation for this album is 15.8.

Who is the best guitarist?; Ask Prince...
A swell debut, but I can see why people call it 'cheesy' or 'corny.' I love this album to death, not only because of the music but how this collection of songs paved the way to the great legacy that we know today. Starting as a simple funk/R&B act, Nelson, with the mononymous moniker 'Prince' attached to doing virtually everything on the record, or A record, including playing the "27 instruments" and producing, arranging, writing, and composing each piece, slowly but surely transformed his sound, starting with just his next self-titled album.
My favorites are: "Soft And Wet" (just barely, despite its radio play to this day and 'classic' status), the acoustic firefly "Crazy You," the disco/funk number "Just As Long As We're Together," the slow jam "Baby," and the best – probably one of the best songs of his entire career, in my opinion – one, "My Love Is Forever" (the demo version is on par if not better, in my honest opinion; it holds a part of the guitar solo not heard on the album).
Looking into this album is very interesting, especially when considering only seven years later, "Purple Rain" would spawn, cementing him in music history and royalty, and later, "Sign O' The Times," his magnum opus, would come to be, a decade after his debut as a sort of subconscious anniversary.
I actually think Prince's debut is very good. I really, really like Purple Rain and Sign, but this album displays that Prince was already a genius.
Prince was very young here and finding his sound. Soft and Wet is a legit track but nothing else really sticks for me.
Pretty much agree with the consensus. it's a passable debut, quite sweet in places but not very distinctive and nowhere near what Prince was capable of at his peak. That being said, there are a handful of good songs on here, my favourites being "In Love" and "My Love is Forever".
An okay debut from Prince but nothing seems to really standout and on the whole is pretty unmemorable. The best is certainly yet to come.
A solid debut from Prince and the start of a great and varied collection of Rock Funk & Soul. Side 1 (1-5) is better than Side 2 although I'm Yours and My Love Is Forever are good songs. The stand out tracks are Soft & Wet, In Love and Crazy You.
Not a bad debut but most of the tracks on here are forgettable.
A relatively uneventful debut considering the greatness that would eventually come, but still worth checking out for the highlights. I'm Yours proved that Prince was a closeted rocker from the get-go with some amazing guitar-work YEARS before Purple Rian, Soft And Wet is a disco classic, Just As Long As We're Together is funk heaven, etc...
His first and best album. Best song: "My love is forever">
