Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)
This album has a Bayesian average rating of 68.0/100, a mean average of 67.1/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 67.6/100. The standard deviation for this album is 16.0.

Unfortunately the movie was really bad and it overshadowed the fact that the soundtrack was really enjoyable. My favorites include Can’t Stop This Feeling I Got, New Power Generation, Round & Round, We Can Funk, Joy in Repetition & Thieves In The Temple. Not a big fan of The Time tracks and Melody Cool which makes it too long.
I know this is controversial, but I think this was a great sequel soundtrack, equal to Purple Rain. Have only heard the soundtrack, but I'm guessing it was never going to sell like Purple Rain with the market changes...
Plenty too like in this soundtrack even if a little overlong and perhaps a bit too much fodder. Certainly much better than the rankings suggest and too be honest as good as anything he's released in the last 25 years.
It'd be easier to listen to if it was all Prince, but we get his B-list sidekicks too. Question of U is Under the Cherry Moon rehashed. Listen to New Power Generation and move on.
Underrated because people associate the movie too much with the music. As a film, Graffiti Bridge effectively ended Prince's once-promising film career, but the album has some real strengths.
When I think of what sort of soundtrack Prince is capable of, it's hard to take this CD seriously. However, there is great music here. "Round and "Round", "Love Machine" and "Thieves in the Temple" are great songs.
Despite a new appreciation for this album, it is still my least favorite Prince album of his first two decades. I think part of it is a result of not really fully appreciating the handful of songs featuring other vocalists. I paid for a Prince album; not a Tevin Campbell, the Time, or Mavis Staples album. That being said, I haven’t given this album a listen in a great many years. I might have listened to it once or twice since 1990. Upon listening to it now, I have to say it has aged relatively well for me. I actually enjoyed it through my most recent listen. Maybe I enjoyed it because it’s like getting a new 80s era Prince album (and I miss that Prince a lot). I can definitely say that it is no longer my least favorite Prince album, and I give it just a smidge over 3 stars mostly because of the coolest track on it, “Thieves in the Temple.” That one is a truly great Prince song. “Joy in Repetition” also borders on being a great song.
Another soundtrack, this one for the awful sequel to Purple Rain. The album is a lot better than the movie but it's overlong.
