Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)
This album is rated in the top 8% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a Bayesian average rating of 75.4/100, a mean average of 76.4/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 76.4/100. The standard deviation for this album is 10.0.

Some great classic songs on here, I just don’t get the poor rankings, pearl should be regarded as a classic, probably the best Muses song ever.
'92:5 You Like Me When I'm Angry
It took me a while to get into this one. The problem is that it starts off on such a high note with the one-tweo punch of "Furious" & "Firepile". "Furious" is Kristen at her best and a total throwback to her 80s heydey as the original Riot Grrrl. But then I absolutely hate the third track - "Dio." For the longest time, I thought that was Michael Stipe singing with Kirsten. Supposedly it's Bob Mould. I'm still not convinced. Sounds totally like every other Michael Stipe duet at the time. Back in the early 90s when it seemed like Stipe was dueting with everyone. A total duet slut that clogged the college radio airwaves. Anyways this sounds like one of those songs. It makes me miss Tonya in a very bad way. And it's not helped that the next track "-"Dirty" Water is my second least favorite track. It's not bad, but It can't touch those first two tracks. So the album hits a dead patch right when it should be blazing. But, once I prevailed through that the rewards were great, and the second side absolutely rips - delivering on the promise of those first two songs in spades.
Gone for some reason is the radio friendly Alt Rock production that Throwing Muses perfected on Real Ramona. I think it's interesting that they abandoned the sound that everyone else - such as The Breeders - was embracing Instead the production goes back to what they sounded like in the 80s on such American Underground classics as their stunning self-titled debut and House Tornado.
Grade: B+ While this is not essential Throwing Muses, it's really awesome and features some of Kristen's best stuff. The second side is all killer no filler. I'm sure if i made a playlist that's deleted the Bob Mould duet, I'd like t even more. So I guess I'll do that. (It's interesting because I was really liking what Bob Mould was doing at the time with Sugar). Highly Recommended!
this is the first Muses release after the departure of Tanya Donelly for The Breeders and Belly, and i thought i'd really miss her input, but kristin, dave, and original TM bassist leslie langston put together a really strong, muscular 3-piece outfit, with help from Bob Mould on one track. it's got a very different feel than its predecessor, The Real Ramona, and it includes some really strong songs that started the band in a new direction as a 3-piece (with bernard georges taking over on bass).
