My taste is light, indie and alternative rock, with a side of smooth hip hop.

"Love is all and love is everyone. It is knowing, it is knowing." The Beatles deserve every ounce of their fame, and this album, to me, if proof of that. At a time when popular music was just teeny Rock and Roll, The Beatles were the first to say "What if we did this?". Decades ahead of it's time, every second of this record oozes creativity and new sound. History is captured here, the history of four young guys willing to set new boundaries for music. Every song is perfect, even Yellow Submarine (which is awful), has the exact, pinpointed melodies matched with every instrument, making every song an indisputable classic. Flawless and still fresh, even 50 years later. |

"Hamagangur, ég þusti niður að læknum bjargvættur" Perhaps my favourite moment of this album is when the radar sound can be heard in the distance on the intro track. Timed so well, it sounds like someone lost in the depths of the ocean, and as the sound gets louder you can feel it passing through your head. It's stunning and it's sonic, a totally alien world created through really rich sounds. I've always been a sucker for Orchestration, and this album uses it so gorgeously, it's hard not to be moved by the piano, dripping through, or the scratch of the violins. It's entirely mesmerizing. |

"If I was crying in the van with my friend - it was for freedom, from myself and from the land." Sufjan Stevens is the Bruce Springsteen of our time. A symbol of the USA (albeit in a totally different light) and is one of those song writers that just churns out song after song each that's as catchy and as perfect as the last. It's Indie Pop, sure, and the songs are far from anything complex - but it's entirely magical. Sufjan's Voice is so beautifully concerned with a slight feminine husk to it, I could listen to it all day. But perhaps more importantly Sufjan is a storyteller. This album is like watching over the state of Illinois for perhaps just one day, and seeing all of it's joy, it's common problems, it's people, all living in that moment. Larger than life, and there's something about knowing that everything he sings about is about somewhere, right now, on our planet. Sometimes we need that album that just makes us so damn happy about being alive. |

"At the end of every hard earned day people find some reason to believe" This album's strongest appeal may be that it was never meant to exist - at least not like this. Whilst other albums are fine-tuned and perfected in the studio, here we just have Springsteen, with a few different pieces of equipment, recording in his bedroom. But it shouldn't have sounded any other way. This album is so raw, and so untouched, it almost perfectly matches the theme this record rests on: the loss of the american dream. Bruce Springsteen zooms into the lives of the everyday American man, and tell their story - and from that the album feels so personal. It's all entirely hopeless, but the final track puts that genuine smile back on the entire album, that as human beings we're designed to keep moving, no matter what we might come our way, that's in our nature. I love being reminded that. |

"Blessed love, the love I've seen. Stair by idle stair, faith one path & the second in fear." Some albums you could hum along all the way through, but this isn't that album. Surprising with absolutely every listen; you notice something new every time. The album just keeps moving, there's never a dull moment, even if at sometimes it's just a calm guitar riff playing in an empty room - every dynamic is met and every single second is worth your time. So mysterious, so foreign and so painfully delicate, Talk Talk still prove themselves today as the gods of Post-Rock. |

"Oh I'm scared of that middle place, between light and nowhere. I don't want to be the one left in there, left in there." Hands down the most beautiful piece of music I've ever heard. Absolutely heart-breaking, in just 35 minutes Antony places everything he's ever thought and cared about onto a table and perfectly expresses it. His voice is unlike any other - baritone, but delicate and quivering, you can feel his uncertainty throughout everything his says like a poison on what he's trying to say. I love to listen to this album passing along the roads in the middle of the night. |
