With every passing day I grow to love what 2021 had to offer musically more and more. It was the year of spectacular female pop acts for sure. But I honestly felt like each end of my musical taste was substantially fed.
Also some Eps worth talking about
Dark Dead Lullybyes - Even Eye (a killer rock collection from a local group)
The Asymptomatic World - Yves Tumor (more of what made their 2020 album so great)
Wither - The Reign of Kindo (some really great, spacial pop)
Good Dog, Bad Dream - Hippo Campus

It's the most personal and heartfelt Weezer project since Pinkerton which is a top 10 ever album for me so this one is an instant classic. Weezer and orchestra was meant to be.

This album has a dreamlike quality that I've never seen done in such this specific way, that with the washed-out guitars and stuff it really feels densely packed with emotion. It does towards the end feel a little aimless with tracks that could all act as closers stuck next to each other but the feelings I get when listening to this project are unparalleled

Another pop masterpiece on my 2021 chart, my heart can't take it oh my gosh. California, How Not To Drown and He Said She Said all could've album defining anthems, but they just said nah we’re gonna stack the crap out of this record and make it one of the most infectious album listening experiences ever.

Instrumentally and melodically might be Sufjan's best album since Illinois. But lyrically it's not even close to Sufjan's best work. So it's a very intriguing and amazing listen, but idk I really miss the super personal and thought provoking Sufjan. That's ok though since last year's Ascension had so many great Sufjan lyrics.

This is like Pink Floyd level instrumentation. And by that I mean that words aren't needed to express the feelings meant to come from this album. The thing that makes that even more impressive is that the instrumentation on this record isn't nearly as complex as a Floyd record, it's really fairly simplistic. So the fact that it can convey so much emotion with little complexity is super impressive.

Oh boy, this one grows on me more after every listen. It really just goes off from start to end. I will say that from Chain On to Bankroll it's not nearly as strong as the rest. Aside from those, Roadrunner is the group at their best. I could talk about how great each track is but I think The Light Part II might be the biggest accomplishment here. The art of closing an album is a hard one, but this is one of the best closing tracks I've ever heard.

It's not a conceptual behemoth of a masterpiece like Igor, but hardly anything is. Going for a fun mixtape as a follow-up was so smart, just a ton of fun.
