Rating metrics: Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)

This album is rated in the top 7% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a Bayesian average rating of 75.5/100, a mean average of 74.3/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 75.6/100. The standard deviation for this album is 14.7.

This album seems bland by Bowie's standards - admittedly these are very high standards! - and bland even by the standards of producer Nile Rodgers. I find the title song, Modern Love, and Ricochet unlistenably bland, but I will admit a liking for China Girl and Cat People.

Excellent album, worth owning for the first three tracks alone. Has that ‘eighties sound’ synonymous with so many other great eighties albums.

An album where the performances elevate the songwriting to make the album an essential listen. The only hit songs on the album are tracks 1 and 3. However, there are no weak songs on the album. 9/10!

Side A is way better than Side B

Slightly front heavy but that's only because the first few tracks are exceptional rather than very good

This is not on the level of his 1970s albums. First 3 songs are great, but then it goes downhill with a little highlight (Criminal World, Cat People).

Best Bowie record of the 80's and probably one of his top 5 ever. Way too underrated on this site and just in general.
Best song(s): The entire album

Not a big Bowie fan. Like the first few songs, but also skip side B of the LP
