This is the VU's worst album (not counting Squeeze, of course), which means it is also one of the best albums of all-time.

My third favourite album from them, behind Banana and VU. Not their most daring or groundbreaking effort, but possibly their most consistent and cohesive set of songs. (Edited)

I think this is their 3rd most enjoyable album behind their debut and 1969's V.U. album, the whole album is fairly accessible to anyone with an ear for good music. All 10 tracks fit well together a great all round album. (Edited)

Unpopular opinion but this is my favorite Velvet Underground album at the moment, maybe not their best but the most accesible and not so noisy as VU&N or White Light/White Heat (Edited)

Well, this is an interesting one...

Loaded is the Velvet Underground album I find the most difficult to judge. I know that I like “& Nico” and “White Light, White Heat” better than it, but I am ever so slightly conflicted as to whether I prefer this or their self titled album.

Side 1 of this album is absolutely brilliant. ‘Who Loves the Sun’ is as good as any of the Velvet openers (and that’s good), ‘Sweet Jane’ is one of their best and possibly the best on the album, ‘Rock and Roll’ is great, ‘Cool it Down’ is a really good song but is still the weakest on the side and ‘New Age’ is in competition with ‘Sweet Jane’ to be the best song on the album.

Side 2 is, unfortunately, rather weak, ‘I Found a Reason’ is good and the closing track ‘Oh! Sweet Nothing’ is great. This is the sort of inconsistency you would expect from a Lou Reed solo album, which is what Side 2 of Loaded feels like. Still good, just not exeptional.

I would reccomend getting the special edition which includes 4 extra tracks, all of which are amazing. I usually just listen to the first 5 tracks then go dierectly to the extra tracks, then end of with ‘ Oh! Sweet Nothing’, that makes for a much better listen.

Overall, I like this a tad better than their sekf titled album, but not as much as the 2 John Cale era albums. If your a fan, get it.
