Rating metrics: Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)

This album is rated in the top 3% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a Bayesian average rating of 77.7/100, a mean average of 77.3/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 77.8/100. The standard deviation for this album is 12.6.

I am a Beach House fan and I love every album they make (even their first 2). This one is their best. Also this one has their best songwriting. The chord progressions are great and their melodies are beautiful. What else that makes this album their best is they tend to actually play the music rather than just pluck arpeggios. They really strum out amazing music on this one. I cry rarely but this music is so beautiful, it will make you cry.

You gotta be a real Beach House fan to hear this one as their best but when you do, you understand why. Its not as popular as Teen Dream or Bloom but those albums are just as good. I just think this one displays their talent, songwriting abilities and beauty more. Its the kind of album you listen to at the park on a sunny day and just bask in wistful positivity. Its not a breakup album like someone said. Its really positive and optimistic. The atmospheres on this album are mind blowing to hear how captivating Victoria's keyboards and vocals are. Like always, she sounds like she's singing to you and you're there to take it in. I love keyboard albums with good songwriting and strumming that are really trying to hook you in and it has it all.

A must listen and essential album to have in your collection. Vibe out :)

This feels like the breakup album of an already mystical-melancholy and shoegazy band.

I particularly like how it feels like a loner album without totally committing to it. Levitation and Space Song sound like songs that lift you up and give you the escapism you were looking for. But then, Beyond Love and Days of Candy hit you and make you realize that you're escaping on your own.

It's a very intimate album in that it targets only you, and all you're going through. I really appreciate that...maybe because of the transitions I'm making in my life- job, new chapter of adulthood, realizing my views/feelings of friends and family, etc.

I don't mean to say that you have to be in the phase I'm in to take something from this album, but it certainly pinpoints some feelings you may have. Let it envelope you and take you on a mental vacation for 40-50 minutes. You, and Beach House, deserve it.

80/100

If you don't wanna listen to the whole album, try: Levitate, Sparks, Space Song, Beyond Love, PPP

Beach House released two albums this year and they’re both rather bangin’. I liked that this one had a tactile velvety cover, and the music wasn’t bad either.

Best track: Space Song. This one is so sweet and giddy, you could imagine it on the soundtrack to a Wes Anderson adaptation of Le Petit Prince. Which is totally something that would happen.

Quite ambient. Consistent. I like the last song.

It's a very stripped down version of their previous sound. If you liked previous Beach House a lot, you'll probably love this. If you found any faults with their sound beforehand, they get amplified in this arrangement. I've never been sold on Beach House's particular take on dream pop, so this is kind of a dud for me, but I completely understand why many consider this to be the quintessential Beach House record.

After the somewhat different Bloom, they went back to their old style, and it sounds... well, a lot better. It’s like they finally found out how to make the music they wanted to make with the first three albums. Better late than never.

Depression Cherry is the act of Beach House distilling what is so perfect about the sound they've developed; they have removed the edge of their sound and given us the complete raw component of their dreaminess. It is minimalist, amorphous, and in many ways unfocused, but it is legitimately one of the loveliest and most euphoric albums I've ever heard.

There are a few moments where they delve into new territory (the shoegaze elements on "Sparks", the choir on "Days of Candy") but for the most part Beach House plays it very safe here. To me, that is fine. The sounds, imagery, and storytelling on this record are vague but almost therapeutically beautiful for me to listen to.

To me, this record and Teen Dream vie for my second favorite behind Bloom.

This should be much higher. What a fantastic record. Bloom is their best, but I personally will take this one over Teen Dream. Theyre both classics, which makes me very confused why this one is ranked so low in comparison. I guess this site isnt perfect.

Best tracks: Levitation, Space Song, PPP

Probably their most consistent outside of 'Sparks', which is good as a single but feels really out of place on the album. Would have probably been better as an opener or a closer, but in between Levitation & Space Song that obnoxious guitar is a little bit of a mood killer. Other than that small complaint, the album is stunning.
