Would anyone be down to have a "Top 10 Albums of 2014 Thus Far" discussion or I should create a separate thread for it?
I admit that this year hasn't been that great but the few that DID come out were impressive.
Man, you couldn't any more (imo) wrong. I've heard over one-hundred records I would say were worth hearing and the 1-50 area is full of records I'm currently in love with and by that logic that is an extremely competent batting average.

There may actually be a thread for it. I know I started a thread for favorite songs of 2014, but can't remember if there's an album thread. _________________ http://jonnyleather.com

Pretty much this, I've also been away for ages so there's stills loads I missed from this year, went on a downloading spree yesterday, looking forward to catch up with everything at last. _________________

I gotta say. I've heard a ton this year, but did enjoy last year's output quite a bit better. Was discussing this a little with Norman on Plug last week. Last year had unexpected gems from MBV, Bowie, Wire, Pere Ubu, Nick Cave (not so unexpectedly great). It's rare you see icons like that come out of nowhere and drop something that good. _________________ http://jonnyleather.com

What did you grab for your queue?

I mean yeah last year was impeccable, but I think discounting this year as generally ignorable despite a small handful of records is a bit melodramatic. I loved 2013, but I also love this year as it has been filled with great releases that have yet to wear on me. I think 2013-2014 has a higher batting average of high rankings than 2010-2012 did.

I think this is basically a dig deep kind of year when some years you find a lot of great records floating near the surface. I don't think saying "this is a weak year" necessarily means that there's not plenty of great records to be found. Plus certain stylistic trends just appeal to some more than others. _________________ http://jonnyleather.com
Got the majority of stuff recced on my chart that I couldn't get to before I left (Cheers for the Ray LaMontagne rec, gonna give it a listen later), after those I pretty much picked randomly from the top ranked charts for this year and gathered some stuff from the overall chart I missed, currently enjoying this:
